    The Culture
    The most colorful and friendly of the Caribbean islands is by far the Dominican Republic. Its culture is a fascinating mix of American, African, and European influences. The Dominican character is famed for its big-hearted and friendly temperament.

    Bartholomew Columbus founded the settlement on the banks of the Yaque River in 1495. It is the most important city after Santo Domingo, and is the principal urban center for the fertile Cibao agricultural region, known for some of the finest tobacco in the world. Santiago’s is considered cradle of the Merengue, the national rhythm, and has been home to many of the island nation's greatest presidents.

    The coastline is blessed with beautiful stretches of pristine beach, lush green valleys and backed by magnificent rolling hills.
